Carbon dioxide fire extinguisher VVK-2 (VV-3) — portable fire suppression device with a 2 kg charge of carbon dioxide (CO₂). The main advantage of carbon dioxide fire extinguishers — they leave no traces: after extinguishing there is no powder that corrodes contacts and damages equipment. This is the optimal choice for electrical equipment, electronics and archives. Ukrainian production (Rubizh), complies with DSTU 3675-98.
How carbon dioxide fire extinguisher differs from powder
CO₂ extinguishes fire using two mechanisms at once: displaces oxygen from the fire zone and rapidly cools the source. Unlike powder, it does not damage equipment, documents and surfaces — after activation the gas simply evaporates. This is why carbon dioxide fire extinguishers are installed where powder would cause secondary damage: near servers, electrical panels, office equipment, at charging stations.

❗ Important to note: carbon dioxide fire extinguisher is less effective against solid materials with deep smoldering (wood, fabric in depth) and works poorly in open air / in wind — gas disperses. For cars on the street, powder VP is more universal; VVK is primarily for electrical equipment and indoors.

How to use (3 steps)
- Pull out the safety pin
- Direct the nozzle at the fire source
- Press the lever
Safety rules when working with CO₂:
- Do not hold the nozzle with bare hands — during discharge it cools to very low temperatures, frostbite is possible. Hold only by the handle/nozzle holder.
- In a closed room after extinguishing, be sure to ventilate — CO₂ displaces oxygen.

Maintenance
Carbon dioxide fire extinguishers are subject to periodic reweighing (charge mass control) and are suitable for recharging. The cylinder resource is designed for many years of operation.
