The filter weighs only 85 g, fits easily in the palm of your hand and helps you get clean drinking water almost anywhere: in the mountains, forest, at a campsite, near a lake, river or stream, as well as when traveling abroad.

Usage is extremely simple: fill the soft pouch with water from a lake, stream or river, screw the filter directly onto the pouch and squeeze it to filter water into a bottle or other container.

The Sawyer Squeeze filter provides absolute filtration down to 0.1 microns — that’s 0.0001 mm. According to the manufacturer, it removes 99.99999% of bacteria, including salmonella, leptospirosis pathogens, cholera vibrio and E. coli, as well as 99.9999% of protozoan microorganisms, including giardia and cryptosporidium. The filter also removes 100% of microplastics.

How it works

Absolute 0.1 micron filtration

Sawyer filters use a large number of miniature hollow U-shaped microtubes. They trap contaminants while allowing purified water to pass through the filter at high flow rates.

This technology helps you get clean water without needing to store it for long after purification and reduces the risk of recontamination after filtration.

Sawyer Squeeze is certified to filter down to 0.1 microns, meaning no opening in the filter material exceeds 0.1 microns. This prevents harmful bacteria, protozoan microorganisms and cysts, including E. coli, Giardia, Vibrio cholerae and Salmonella typhi, from passing through the filter.

All Sawyer filters meet or exceed the contaminant removal standards recommended by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency EPA.

To get clean water, simply fill the included reusable pouch with water from any available source, screw on the filter and drink directly through it or squeeze the purified water into a bottle.

The filter can also be screwed onto most standard disposable water bottles or carbonated beverage bottles with 28 mm threads or installed in-line with a drinking system sold separately.

Field maintenance

The Sawyer Squeeze filter membranes are durable enough to withstand backflushing with the included syringe plunger. After cleaning, you can restore up to 98.5% of the filter’s flow rate.

The filter can be cleaned and reused almost unlimited times. Expensive replacement cartridges are not needed. For optimal performance, it is recommended to rinse and disinfect the filter after each hike, trip or active outdoor use.
