Description

Gas cartridge threaded 230 g, all-season, butane-isobutane-propane — the most popular cartridge size with 7/16″ thread per EN 417: for outings for two, for two to three days solo, for a week of tea in a dugout. A mixture of 50% butane, 25% isobutane and 25% propane maintains pressure from −23 to +35 °C — winter nights, mountains, early spring hike. 230 g of gas — this is about an hour at full power of a 3 kW burner or 1.5 hours at 2 kW: 8–10 boils of half a liter. Steel body Ø 110 × 90 mm, gross weight about 380 g, self-sealing valve and protective cap. Wide bottom makes a burner with a pot more stable than on 100 g. Disposable, not designed for refilling.

Thread standard — for compact tourist burners, lamps and heaters that screw onto a cylinder; household stoves and burners with a collet lock do not work with it — for them there is a collet cylinder 220 g. The same gas in other threaded cylinders — 100 g for ultralight and one day and 450 g for a week or group. 230 g — the golden mean: fits in a pot of 1.2–1.5 l together with the burner and costs less per milliliter than 100 g.

For whom

  • Tourists on weekends for two: breakfast, dinner and tea for two days from one cylinder
  • Fighters with threaded burners: a week of tea and heating at position, cylinder in total
  • Climbers, winter hikes: all-season mix works in frost and at altitude
  • Fishermen, hunters, car tourists: 2–3 days of cooking without firewood and smoke
  • Emergency backpack: supply for several days with a compact burner

Advantages

  • All-season mix with 25% propane — works from −23 °C
  • Thread 7/16″ EN 417 — fits all threaded burners, lamps and heaters
  • 230 g — 8–10 boils of half a liter, 1–1.5 hours of burning
  • Ø 110 × 90 mm, gross about 380 g — in a pot of 1.2–1.5 l together with burner
  • Wide bottom — more stable burner with a pot than 100 g
  • Self-closing valve — unscrewed an unfinished cartridge, screwed on another
  • Steel body, protective cap on the valve

Instructions for use

  1. Make sure the burner regulator is closed. Remove the cap from the cartridge.
  2. Place the cartridge vertically with the valve facing up and screw on the burner clockwise until it stops — without effort, the thread enters freely. Do not tilt.
  3. Open the regulator, ignite the burner according to its instructions. Hold the cartridge vertically; on uneven ground use a stand with “legs”.
  4. After use, close the regulator, let the burner cool down, unscrew the cartridge, put on the cap. The self-closing valve retains the remaining gas.
  5. Dispose of empty cartridge with metal; do not throw into fire, do not puncture.

In winter, keep the cartridge in your pocket or sleeping bag before cooking: a warm cartridge provides full pressure immediately. During use, the cartridge cools down — this is normal; if the flame weakens, take a break or warm the cartridge in your palms, not near the fire. The remaining gas in the cartridge can be estimated by weighing it: an empty one weighs about 150 g.

Safety

Pressurized cylinder, gas is extremely flammable. Do not heat above +40 °C, do not leave in the sun, in a car in summer, near a stove or heater; do not cover with a windscreen that reflects heat onto the cylinder. Do not puncture, disassemble, or burn even when empty. Do not refill. Change the cylinder only on a cold burner, away from fire; when changing, brief gas release is possible — do not do this near an open flame. Use only with devices with EN 417 thread and only in a ventilated place — combustion produces carbon monoxide; do not cook in a tent. Store vertically, with a cap, away from fire, sparks and heating devices, out of reach of children.

Frequently Asked Questions

Threaded or cartridge?
Threaded — for compact camping stoves that screw onto the top of a canister, lamps and some heaters. Cartridge 220 g — for household stoves in a case, folding Kovar stoves and Torch attachments. Check your device: 7/16″ thread — this canister, lever lock — cartridge.

How long does 230 g last?
For 8–10 boils of half a liter: enough for two people with three hot meals a day or 3–4 days solo. For a week for two or for a group — 450 g.

100, 230 or 450 g?
100 g — one day and ultralight. 230 g — weekends, 2–4 days, best weight-to-fuel ratio. 450 g — a week, group, base camp, heater. Per milliliter 450 g is cheapest, 100 g is most expensive.

Does it work in frost?
Down to −23 °C thanks to 25% propane and isobutane. In frost keep the canister warm before use; during operation it cools down — if the flame weakens, warm it in your palms.

How to know how much gas is left?
Weigh it: empty 230 g canister weighs about 150 g, full — 380 g. Or dip in water: full one sinks deeper. Self-sealing valve allows you to unscrew and screw the canister back on as many times as you want.

Can it be refilled?
No. The cylinder is disposable, the valve and body are not designed for refilling.
