Sawyer SP160 One Gallon Gravity Water Filtration System — a lightweight, durable and convenient gravity water filtration system for hiking, camping, trekking, travel and emergency preparedness.

The system allows you to filter large volumes of water without constantly squeezing the bag or manual pumping. Simply fill the reservoir with water, hang it above the filter — and gravity will do the work for you. One full reservoir with a capacity of 3.8 L can be filtered in approximately 7 minutes.

The kit includes a Sawyer MINI filter with dual-threaded connection. It weighs only 57 g, fits in the palm of your hand and provides absolute filtration down to 0.1 μm, which is 0.0001 mm. According to the manufacturer, the filter removes 99.99999% of bacteria, including salmonella, cholera vibrio and E. coli, 99.9999% of protozoan microorganisms, including giardia and cryptosporidium, as well as 100% of microplastics.

A reservoir with a capacity of 3.8 L weighs only 128 g. It is equipped with a wide mouth for quick filling and a convenient handle for carrying or hanging.

Sawyer SP160 is ideal for situations where you need to quickly get more clean water: at camp, on a route, during outdoor recreation, while traveling, or in an emergency kit.

How it works

Absolute filtration 0.1 micron

Sawyer filters use a large number of miniature hollow U-shaped microtubes. They trap contaminants while allowing purified water to pass through the filter at high flow rate.

This technology reduces the need to store water for long periods after purification and helps reduce the risk of recontamination after filtration.

Sawyer MINI filter with dual-threaded design is certified to filter down to 0.1 microns. This means that the pore size in the filter material does not exceed 0.1 microns, so harmful bacteria, protozoa and cysts, including E. coli, Giardia, Vibrio cholerae and Salmonella typhi, do not pass through the filter.

All Sawyer filters meet or exceed the contamination removal standards recommended by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency EPA.

Gravity does the work for you

To use the system, unscrew the wide reservoir cap and fill it with water from a lake, stream, river, tap, or other available source. Then connect the included tube between the reservoir and the Sawyer MINI filter.

The filled reservoir can be hung on a tree, backpack, hook, or simply held in your hand above the filter. Water passes through the filter on its own under the force of gravity, and at the outlet you get clean water for drinking, cooking, or filling bottles.

Resource up to 378,500 L

The Sawyer MINI filter is designed to filter up to 378,500 L water. Its filtration membranes are strong enough to withstand backwashing using the included syringe plunger. This cleaning helps restore up to 98.5% of the filter’s flow rate.

The kit also includes a cleaning coupling that allows you to rinse the filter using a standard plastic water bottle or carbonated beverage bottle with 28 mm threading.

The filter can be cleaned and reused an almost unlimited number of times. Expensive replacement cartridges are not needed. For optimal performance, it is recommended to rinse and disinfect the filter after each hike, trip, or active outdoor use.

Maximum versatility

Thanks to the dual-threaded design, the Sawyer MINI filter can be used with a push/pull cap for convenient opening and closing of water flow during filtration.

The filter can also be screwed onto most standard disposable water bottles or carbonated beverage bottles with 28 mm threading or installed inline in a drinking system between the reservoir and drinking valve.
